Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM)

Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) is the Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA)-recommended solution to migrate Oracle Databases to the Oracle Cloud.

ZDM supports on-premises databases to be migrated to:

  1. Oracle Database Cloud Service Bare Metal
  2. Oracle Database Cloud Service Virtual Machine
  3. Exadata Cloud Service, Exadata Cloud at Customer, Exadata On-Premises
  4. Autonomous Database (Logical Workflow only)

ZDM Supports the following backup mediums:

  • OCI Object Storage
  • Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance
  • NFS Storage

ZDM can be downloaded from here
https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/rac/zdm-downloads.html

Oracle ZDM is managed through a command-line interface (CLI) that runs on a dedicated ZDM service host, allowing administrators to control and monitor migration jobs.

Migration Modes

Physical Migration → Uses Data Guard (fast, recommended for similar versions/platforms).
Logical Migration → Uses GoldenGate or Data Pump (needed if endian format differs, or cross-version moves).

Supported Version for the setup

Source  =>  Must be 11.2.0.4 or newer.
Target   =>  Must be 19c (or higher).
